Columbia College STUDENT ASSOCIATION (CCSA)

Welcome to the Columbia College Student Association!

By being enrolled at Columbia College as a student, you are automatically a member of the CCSA. Every Winter semester, general elections are conducted campus – wide to elect twelve (12) members who will represent the CCSA Executive Committee. Successful candidates will then sit on further subcommittees:

Student Advocacy Committee
Create an inclusive and supportive environment where every student’s voice is heard, valued and respected. The committee utilizes various methods to address student concerns and grievances, promote equality and enhance the student experience at Columbia College.

Health and Wellness Committee
Create a campus culture that values and prioritizes the good health and wellbeing of students. The committee will oversee initiatives to raise awareness, reduce stigma and provide resources that supports the health and wellbeing of students. 

Events and Promotion Committee
Create a dynamic program of events, activities and initiatives for students at Columbia College. The committee will oversee the planning and promotion of these events to engage and create memorable experiences for students. 

Volunteer Engagement Committee
Organize on and off campus volunteering opportunities for students by collaborating with the Career Advisor. This committee also provide opportunities to students to volunteer for initiatives conducted by the CCSA. 

Winter 2024 Executive Committee Elections

We are pleased to announce that general elections for the Winter 2024 Executive Committee is now open! We are looking for dedicated and passionate students who want to represent Columbia College students in the CCSA. 

 Election Process

Self-Nomination Period

Students who are interested in representing the CCSA at the Executive level and sitting in one of the four (4) subcommittees can submit a self-nomination form, nominating themselves for the position. Each subcommittee requires three representatives. The requirements to nominate yourself for the Executive Committee is:

  • Must choose to represent one out of the four subcommittees of the CCSA
  • Must be in good disciplinary standing 
  • Must have at least 1-2 more semesters left at Columbia College
  • Must include 1-3 past or current experiences or achievements highlighting your ability to sit on the Executive Committee and the subcommittee of your choice
Each candidate can only run for one (1) subcommittee. The self-nomination period begins on Thursday, February 15th at 5pm and closes on Saturday, February 22nd at 5pm. 

 

Attend a “Candidate Info Session”

The next step in the election process is attending a “Candidate Info Session”. This info session is mandatory for all candidates running for elections. Candidates who do not attend any of the following session will be disqualified from the election process:

  •  Session 1: Thursday, February 22nd from 8.00pm to 9.00pm
  • Session 2: Friday, February 23rd from 8.00pm to 9.00pm 
  • Session 3: Thursday, February 29th, from 8.00pm to 9.00pm
In this info session, you will be introduced to the structure of the CCSA, expectations of candidates running for elections and successful candidates elected to the CCSA, campaigning rules and regulations and the support available to you during the election process. 

 

Campaigning

Candidates can begin campaigning from Monday, February 26th until Sunday, March 10th. Campaigning is conducted to promote a specific candidate. This can be carried out by the candidate themselves and on behalf of the candidate. 

Voting

The student body will begin voting for candidates on March 11th at 9.00am until March 13th at 5.00pm. No campaigning is permitted at this time. Students can vote for only one (1) candidate for each subcommittee. 

Results from the elections will be announced via email, posters and Instagram posts on Thursday, March 14th at 5pm.

Self-nomination Period: February 15th until February 29th at 5pm

Candidate Info Session:

  • Thursday, February 22nd from 8.00pm to 9.00pm
  • Friday, February 23rd from 8.00pm to 9.00pm 
  • Thursday, February 29th from 8.00pm to 9.00pm

Campaigning Period: February 26th – March 10th 

Voting Period: March 11th – March 13th at 5pm

North Campus Student Council

Students who are enrolled in one or more Secondary level courses should consider joining the NCSC! Student Council is the high school sub-committee of the CCSA. Student Council is mentored by the North Campus Student Life Coordinator.
