Pumpkins, Costumes, and Critters: High School Halloween 2024 Week Recap!

20241026_133447

This year’s High School Halloween Week was a fang-tastic success, packed with spook-tacular activities, boo-tiful costumes, and enough frightful fun to raise the spirits of all! Here’s a look back at everything we got up to this throughout the week!

Pumpkin Patch Trip - October 26

We kicked off Halloween Week with a trip to Richmond Country Farms Pumpkin Patch. Friendly farm animals greeted the students, and feeding the goats was their favourite part of the day.

With food trucks and live music creating a lively atmosphere, we hopped on a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, singing along to “You Are My Sunshine” and “Old MacDonald Had a Farm.” The patch was full of surprises! Everyone got into the fall spirit while weaving through corn mazes and spotting spooky Halloween decorations. At the end of the day, we each picked out a pumpkin to take home—a perfect souvenir from a day well spent!

Pumpkin Carving Party - October 29

On Tuesday, students got together after school for a pumpkin carving party! For those new to pumpkin carving, here are some basic steps we followed:

  1. Pick Your Pumpkin: Choose one with a smooth surface for the best carving.
  2. Cut the Top Off: Carefully carve around the stem to make a lid.
  3. Scoop Out the Inside: Scraping out seeds and pulp was messy but super fun!
  4. Draw Your Design: Sketch your idea on the pumpkin with a marker.
  5. Carve It Out: Using a carving tool or small knife, we carefully followed our designs.
  6. Light It Up: Add a candle or light for a spooky glow.

We carved some amazing designs, and everyone got to showcase their creativity! Afterward, we voted on our favourite pumpkins:

  • 1st Place: 😃 "Cute Face Pumpkin" by Audry
  • 2nd Place: Spiral-Eyed Pumpkin by Nelly, Helena, and Pearl
  • 3rd Place (Tie): SpongeBob Pumpkin by Ari & Smoker Pumpkin by Lawrence

Creepy Critters Show - October 30

Wednesday saw a visit from the Urban Safari Rescue Society, which brought a crew of exotic creatures to our campus! Thanks to Urban Safari, these animals, mostly abandoned pets, now have a safe home.

We learned some fascinating facts—like the differences between turtles and tortoises—and got to see a range of creatures up close. The show's stars were a tarantula, a ball python, a hermit crab, a stick bug, and a hedgehog. It was educational and thrilling, adding an extra dose of excitement as Halloween approached.

Costume Contest - October 31
Halloween Week wrapped up with a Costume Contest in our Student Lounge, transformed into a Halloween runway. Nineteen contestants strutted down the “red carpet,” showcasing their amazing costumes. Our judges had a tough time, but here’s who took home the titles:

  • Scariest: Ninja (El Hassane)
  • Best Duo: Zootopia – Judy (Saniya) and Nick (Ana)
  • Most Creative: Alvin and the Chipmunks – Alvin (Helena), Theodore (Nelly), Simon (Pearl)

This Halloween Week was filled with un-boo-lievable memories, monster-ous laughter, and a howling good time! Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make the events so special. We can’t wait for next year’s fang-tastic fun—until then, creep it real!
