Interested in creating your own club? Columbia College has a fast and simple process to help you get started! Please see below for application steps and club resources.

Do you have an idea for a new club? We’re here to help you turn that vision into reality. Starting a club is a rewarding experience that allows you to share your interests with others and create a vibrant campus community.

Follow the steps below to prepare your proposal.

Steps to Start a Club

  1. Plan Your Club: Identify the purpose, goals and activities of your club.
  2. Find Leaders: Find 2-4 other students who will run the club with you.
  3. Find Members: Find at least ten interested students to support your club.
  4. Submit Your Proposal: Complete the Club Registration Form with your club details.
  5. Approval Process: Your proposal will be reviewed by the Student Life Office.
  6. Launch Your Club: Once approved, start organizing events and recruiting members.

OPERATING A CLUB

Running a successful club requires a lot of dedication and organization. There are deadlines to meet, forms to fill out, bookings to make, members to look after, and of course, some rules to follow.

Hosting an event is a fantastic way to engage your peers, raise awareness for important causes, and develop your leadership skills. We’re here to support you from the initial planning stages to the final wrap-up.

Event applications must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the requested event date.

Steps to Organize an Event

  1. Brainstorm Your Idea: Define the purpose and goals of your event.
  2. Form a Team: Gather a group of dedicated students to help you.
  3. Plan Your Event: Outline the logistics, create a budget, and set a timeline.
  4. Submit Your Proposal: Fill out the Student-Led Event Proposal Form for approval.
  5. Promote Your Event: Once approved, you can start to spread the word.
  6. Execute and Enjoy: Host your event and make a positive impact!

Make a Difference

Fundraising is a powerful way to support causes you care about, whether it’s for a student organization, a charity, or a community project. We offer resources and guidance to help you plan and execute effective fundraising campaigns.

Steps to Start a Fundraiser

  1. Fundraising Guide: Read our detailed Fundraising and Donation Acceptance Policy.
  2. Identify Your Cause: Choose the cause of project you want to support.
  3. Set a Goal: Determine a realistic fundraising target.
  4. Plan Your Strategy: Decide on fundraising methods and create a plan.
  5. Submit Your Proposal: Complete the Student-Led Event Proposal Form for approval.
  6. Launch Your Campaign: Promote your fundraiser and collect donations.
  7. Track Progress: Collect funds, monitor your campaign and keep your supporters updated.

To officially renew your club, please complete the Club Renewal Form by the end of final exam week.

Renewing your club for the next term ensures that you continue to have access to resources, funding and support from the Student Life Office. Follow the steps below to renew your club and keep the momentum going.

Renewal Steps

Important: Clubs are recommended to start planning for the following semester from Week 10 onward.

To renew your club for the next term, follow these essential steps:

1. Discuss Activities for the Following Semester

  • Plan Ahead: Hold a meeting with your club members and leaders to brainstorm and outline activities and events you want to organize in the next term.
  • Set Goals: Define clear goals and objectives for your club to achieve. This could include new initiatives, collaborations, or expanding your membership.
  • Feedback: Collect feedback from current members on what worked well and what could be improved. Use this information to enhance your future activities.

2. Consider Budget Requests for the Following Semester

  • Budget Planning: Review your current budget and financial needs for the next term. Identify any new expenses, potential sponsorships, and funding opportunities.
  • Funding Sources: Explore additional funding sources such as grants, fundraising activities, and partnerships to support your club’s financial requirements.

3. Determine a New Meeting Day and Time if Necessary

  • Review Availability: Check the availability of your current members and leaders to determine if the existing meeting schedule still works for everyone.
  • Adjust Schedule: If necessary, propose a new meeting day and time that accommodates the majority of your members. Ensure to update your club’s calendar and notify all members of the change.

Recommended Timeline

  • Week 10: Begin planning for the next semester.
  • Week 14: Submit your Club Renewal Form.
  • Week 1: Participate in Resource Day to showcase your club and recruit new members.

To officially renew your club, please complete the Club Renewal Form each semester.

Deadline: Sunday of Final Exam Week

What You Need to Provide

  1. Attendance: Submit an attendance record for the past term.
  2. Activity Summary: Summarize your club’s activities and achievements from the past term.
  3. Feedback: Outline ways the Student Life Office can better support your club for the upcoming term.
  4. Leadership Details: Provide current contact information for club executives.

Keep Track of Deadlines

  • Week 1: Participate in Resource Day to showcase your club and recruit new members. Resource Day is on Thursday of the first week of classes.
  • Weekly: Take attendance at each of your club meetings and events.
  • Monthly: Submit your monthly attendance on the last day of each month.
  • Week 10: Begin planning for the next semester.
  • Week 14: Submit your Club Renewal Form.
