About Car Free Day

Car Free Day is an outdoor festival that celebrate Vancouver’s diversity, arts and culture. This street party takes place in many communities in Vancouver, including Main Street and West End. In the surrounding cities, Surrey, New West, Port Coquitlam, and North Vancouver also hold Car Free Day events.

Since 2008, Car Free Day promotes sustainability by blocking off major streets in the city to cars, and allowing people in the community to reclaim the streets. Artists, residents, performers, and businesses take over the space where cars usually drive and transform it into a vibrant neighbourhood-run festival that showcases local culture and talent.
