YOUR PATHWAY TO CAREER SUCCESS

Columbia College (CC) and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) have partnered to provide a pathway program for CC students. CC Students who complete an Associate of Science Degree in Computer Science are eligible to gain entry into BCIT’s Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Investigation (Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity option.

Program Highlights

  • CC Associate of Science (Computer Science) graduates can transition directly into BCIT’s Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity Program.

  • Graduates will be trained to combat cybercrime and gain expertise in digital forensics, cybersecurity, investigation, legal knowledge, and court presentation.

To qualify, Columbia College students must:

  • Earn 60 Credits at CC, covering:
  • English Composition & Literature (6 credits)

  • Calculus & Math courses (6 credits)

  • Science courses, including labs (12 credits)

  • 3 second-year Computer Science (CSCI) courses

  • Arts and elective courses (12 credits)

  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 (C Average) on all applicable coursework.

What is the BCIT Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity Program?

This program prepares students to:

  • Extract digital evidence, investigate cybercrimes, and reduce cyber-related threats

  • Hone their investigative and problem-solving skills, and expand their legal knowledge

  • Learn how to present themselves in court as an expert witness

Program Formats

Full-time:

  • Cohort model with dedicated classmates for networking and collaboration

  • 2 intakes: January and September

  • 5 terms: four 15-week terms and one 4-week term

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm at the Downtown campus

Part-time:

  • 3 intakes: January, April, and September

  • Evening and weekend classes, with up to 7 years for completion

  • Blended delivery (on-campus and online)

Who should apply?

This program might be for you if:

  • You want to understand Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity fundamentals and learn how to “hack legally” to improve security

  • You enjoy critical thinking and problem-solving to investigate and prevent cyber attacks.

  • You are interested in giving an expert testimony when a case comes to trial.

Career Opportunities

Upon completing this BCIT program, graduates will be prepared for roles in various sectors, such as with the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police), which relies on BCIT grads. Because it is a growing field, both private and public sectors need these specialists, offering excellent job placement rates for graduates.
